General Summary:

Assist Manager of Environmental & Sustainability Mgmt Systems and Program Manager in the implementation of the environmental programs and activities of the company to ensure that an effective program is maintained and that appropriate measures are taken to comply with corporate, Georgia Environmental Protection Division (GA EPD), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and related environmental permits, policies, and directives. Provide technical expertise, management assistance and team leadership in the Environmental Health & Safety Department for the Environmental discipline.

Essential Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • 5-10%    Interface with Management and Team Members on a daily basis during the installation, startup, operation and maintenance of plant facilities and equipment. Provide technical guidance during plant modifications and additions.
  • 10-15%    Assist in the overseeing all plant programs and activities for compliance with all environmental permits, guidelines, and regulations.  Serve as coordinator for Kia Georgia’s ISO 14001 Program.  Ensure that all chemical requisitions are reviewed, approved, and entered in the safety data sheet (SDS) management system.  
  • 10-15%    Oversee vendors performing outsourced waste services, consulting services, and maintenance programs and activities for their compliance with company, local, state and federal environmental guidelines and regulations.
  • 15-20%    Prepare, review, and ensure all regulatory reports are completed correctly and submitted to regulatory agencies in a timely manner. 
  • 5-10%    Assist in the development of staff training and continuing education.
  • 20-25%    Conduct inspections of plant facilities, equipment, buildings, plant site, and surrounding areas to ensure conformance to management expectations as well as conformance to all permits, standards, and regulations. Provide follow-up documentation utilizing software programs such as i-auditor, refrigeration software or other applicable environmental programs.
  • 5-10%    Provide assistance to all levels of Management regarding the evaluation of environmental and chemical issues and make recommendations for best management procedures for resolution.
  • 5-10%    Help maintain basic environmental management systems and procedures for Kia Georgia in order to protect team members, facilities, plant site and company interests by maintaining liaison with local and state environmental enforcement agencies and special interest groups.
  • 5-10%    Keep abreast of all state, federal, and corporate environmental regulations and standards applicable to the plant. Communicates with and/or trains team members to the extent appropriate to achieve understanding and compliance. Develops and prepares plant environmental procedures and rules, ensure their communication to those affected and audits for compliance.
  • 5-10%    Interface with vendors, suppliers, equipment manufacturers, local officials, engineers and any other personnel necessary to ensure all equipment and work performed at this facility is in compliance with environmental permits, guidelines, and regulations to ensure plant and personnel safety.

Qualifications and Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Environmental Health, Environment Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, along with seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive experience in environmental management or technical position in the industrial and manufacturing environment preferably within the automotive industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Wastewater Operations training/certifications and/or applicable licenses
  • Certified Level 1A E&S Control is a plus.

Specialized Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access.
  • Experience with SAP system preferred.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge and experience with waste storage and disposal.
  • Knowledge and experience with VOC related oxidizers and equipment. 
  • Knowledge and experience with environmental and chemical operations in an industrial environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with required regulatory reporting (EPCRA, Title V, DMRs, etc.)
